Working weekend

SATURDAY 6TH

Drove around, dropping off pressys and cards and picked up the roof box from Paul. We're ready for the drive to the Alps. Car's done, roof rack's ready.

Nipped into the garden for a quick tidy up as it's all looking weather beaten out there. Just look how much that little clump of snowdrops has come on! All the other ones in the garden are are up and away too. Its looking very pretty.

Spent the evening editing the movie - see 2 blogs ago. Yep, in the bloggosphere everything seems to stay in the order it's done. Movie uploaded Sunday morning. Blogging for Thur, Fri and the weekend finalized and uploaded Sunday. I expect there's a way round it??

Today, Sunday, we did more of the same. But first we packed for our hols. Too busy next week. It's all hidden, neatly, in the guest room, as you can see. Hope no one comes to stay.

We headed to Helens' place to give her a choccy handbag and card - late birthday gift. Then onto Gerrys farm to collect  old plastic sheeting  he's used on his silage. We have one huge roll already. It made us feel quite queezy as it completely filled the back of the car. We had on our oldest clothes and took gardening gloves and 3 shower curtains to cover it with.. We didn't want silage smeared all over the cars' interior.  It wouldn't go in. It's OK though, Gerry says he'll roll the next lot  soon to reveal lovely, fresh silage. He'll roll it tightly so it will go int the car this time. Oh Yeh, I want it to cover the garden plot so that the weeds are suppressed.

After that disaster, I checked on the gorgeous moos. Had fun recently helping to set up his 2 robot milking parlours. I loved it. If he gets a third parlour, I'm at the front of the queue of willing  cow whisperers.

John and Gerry, men at work.

First my pasta maker wore out: lifetime guarantee, so hopefully I can replace the worn cog. Then the bread makers paddle wore itself out and we're having difficulty finding another one. NOW, oven's died. So we bunged our meal in a bread tin and put it in the wood burner. We did this a fair bit last winter by way of an experiment, but it's been so cold this year, that it's put us off the idea. It's important that the fire is low for baking and oven cooking, which means the room temp drops like a stone.

Swimming was actually OK tonight. Not too hot. Not too cold.

As I went in a friend was coming out. It was Sue, who at knitting on the 2nd ( last Tues) had accused my friend Gerry (not the farmer, another Gerry) of being senile. She invited me to see a film. When is it? I asked, Bit busy this week, away next. She didn't know. What's it called? Her reply, Stupid ???  What. Me?? No, no, something to do with people in the future looking back at us now and thinking we're stupid.  So that's a film who's name she can't remember. on a day she can't remember. What was that about Gerry? We agreed she should phone me with details.

As I was leaving the swimming pool, another swimmer, who I don't know, but who is, I think, funny said she liked my hat. It looked like a pot. She had one similar in the Biba days, which she said aged her. I told her I'd just knitted one along the same lines to go with my jacket. She suggested I could knit one for all the swimmers. Personally, I told her, I didn't think they'd be much good as swimming caps. She felt they'd ship too much water. I had visions of being dragged, head first under the water, by the weight of the cap (I know the physics of it make no sense, but its an urban myth turned on its head) . We'd have to wear wellies in the pool to counter balance the pull of the hat (wellies, as we all know, are famous for their massive weight once filled with water. Hence, you never see an Olympic swimmer in them in the pool).

How did we train cows to get themselves milked when ever they want to, without the farmer doing a thing? Read on my inquisitive buddies.......
