A Look Around A Private Nursery - Monday 31.5.10

Bank Holiday Monday. Dad's still here and it's due to rain.

WORSE - WE ATE THE LAST OF THE CAKE YESTERDAY ..... MUST FIND MORE CAKE ...... MUST FIND MORE CAKE......

MeWally scoured the local free paper for inspiration, finally coming to rest on a bit of a do near the River  Severn. FRETHERNE NURSERIES were holding a charity fund raiser, selling plants,
in aid of St Mary's Church.

BOUND TO HAVE TEA AND CAKES!

Sadly, having got to Fretherne, we couldn't do 'the usual': that's a walk across the fields, starting just along from the church, and onto the shores of the Severn. At this point the Severn is home to Hock Cliff, Where it's fun to pick up TINY GOLDEN AMMONITES that are always strewn along the muddy shore  following the high tide. Too far for my 80lots Dad to ramble these days. Besides we hadn't checked the tide tables ..... dodgy - and there's NO CAKE there.

We passed swiftly on to the nursery, finally driving up the long sinuous drive and parking outside this very imposing gateway.

The other side was full of plants on racks

Dad, MeWally and I were in HEAVEN having spotted the sign for TEA AND CAKE right next to the gateway. Our goal was in site .... but not yet.

FIRST WE MUST SHOP.
(it's a girl thing)

Once through the portal of spend we found racks groaning with plants of all kinds,

and a series of poly tunnels full of tempting goodies.

Everything was at bargain basement prices. Cheaper than buying the seed and growing it yourself .... pretty much.

Food, crafts, loads of ideas.

So much choice!

We shopped, put our booty in the car booty and :-

We went for TEA AND CAKES. I know, WHAT A SURPRISE!

The folks running the refreshment table seemed to be having a ball. Pretty amazing as some of them had been flat out all day, since before 10am.

We'd never been to these nurseries before; it was packed with happy shoppers, despite it being really, very, late by the time we got here.

VERDICT ON THE CAKES

EXCELLENT
but scoffalated before I could take out my camera.

WHAT ARE THE CAHANCES OF THAT????

Decided to show you this bijou arrangement that decorated our little table. Using no more than a 3in diameter bucket, someone had created simple perfection.

Also, had to include this lovely lady and her brill hat. Those of you who know me, know my hats! I admit to being a tad (more than) jealous of her. She makes a great subject for a photo too: hat, mug, money - BUT - where's the CAKE?!

Everyone appeared to find this a very pleasant way of spending a couple of hours whilst stocking up on plants. Shame it doesn't happen more than once a year.

I'LL BE BACK

We drove on towards The Anchor pub

Past the cows in the buttercup meadow.

Along the shores of the SEVERN

Spotting the birds

Not those birds - these birds!

Got to EPNEY and the pub, where Dad felt qualified to 'Apply Within'. Wild horses wouldn't've kept him out!

Quaffed our ales and thought.......

it was pretty forlorn looking pub today. Normally busy.

Mind you, we had all this to ourselves.

Headed back, via COALEY VIEW POINT.

Lovely time of the year, with an arresting colour pallet, even on a dull day like today.
