This may seem odd to you, but I bought MeWally an evening on the Banks of the RIVER SEVERN for his birthday. His mission (and mine): to learn to name all the GULLS we spot as they come in to roost.....Sid, Harry, Gertrude, Jeff, Jane....
HE WAS THRILLED!!!!!!!!
We were loaded into a trailer and a guy chatted to us for a bit. He seems far too young to be an expert on birds.
Then we were off, being towed at breakneck speed behind a Landrover.
An extra turn of speed took us over the high banks that form the flood defences along the Severn.
And there it was, THE RIVER SEVERN, serene, beguiling.
Cows munched on the golden grass, oblivious to us with our binos and chatter.
Yep, I know they're not GULLS, but they look so evocative as they slid by.
The sun sank,
and the sky put on a slow and dramatic display;
which is more than I can say for the GULLS.
Even the cows made an effort to be eye catching.
When the light finally faded, we jumped back into the trailer and headed back to the WILDFOWL AND WETLANDS CENTRE, SLIMBRIDGE (Click for link).
I'm not much better at GULL IDENTIFICATION, but MeWally enjoyed himself ....as did I.
Would I go again??
YOUBETCHA : )
