Croix De La Fry / Saturday 20.2.10

Even I was up and about by 9.00am. Very much earlier in the day, I could hear Paul, Amanda and the boys moving about the place, as they prepared to leave for home, I wanted to pop down to say thanks and goodbye properly, but, hey, you know how it is. I slept on. When I finally got up, it was just the 4 of us and a load of balloon animals.

Stuck to our plan,

Amanda's chalet sluts, washed up.

We tipped the rubbish/recycling

Took in the view

getting to Croix De La Fry by midday, just in time for a coffee, a text from Amanda saying they had reached Reims in blizzard conditions and were in a tail back, and to buy a set of afternoon passes to the piste.
Lovely spot.

The cafe is alpine, inside and out.......

Gerry and Phill rummaging for cash.

The uplift here doesn’t favour boarders with unhelpful lift attendants and very ‘snatchy’ pomas, as well as the dreaded ‘travellators’ , which are a doddle on skis, but a total nightmare for a wobbly boarder like me. Added to that of the 3 remaining uplift options, 1 was for children and their parents, leaving me with the choice of a chairlift that crossed a road or a relatively short poma run. I used both options; the chairlift had a tree route and the poma, a choice of a blue, or powdery red route. Not too shabby for a limited choice.

Now it’s our turn to head home. As we stopped in Thones  for journey food, Reblochon, a local cheese, Amanda texted to say they’d reached Calais. They were over 2 hours late for their ferry. Let’s hope we do better.

We left Thones about 6pm, stealing ourselves for an overnight drive.

Needed a stop about 9pm, food plus comfort.

As we circled the hot and cold offerings, an assistant began rearranging the salad bar. We set about serving ourselves salad. I and MeWally got a pretty decent selection, Gerry and Phill were less lucky; what had started as a reshuffle, had turned into a shut down. Gerry came away with about 3 items and paid about a tenner for the privilege.  I don’t get French services at all.
