MOT, keep walking - Friday 25.6.10

Today's the day the car has its' MOT.

Wotdyadoo?

Sit and wait?
Take the courtesy car?
Do something simple, chillax?

MOT

CHILLAX!!!

THAT'LLDONICELY :)

First off was to call in on an extremely old friend. No, no. NO; she's not old. Its simply that we've known each other for a long time. She was in and, as ever, chatty over tea. To know more about the marvellous HELEN ROYAL, click on this link.

I toddled onto the TOW PATH, awash with tea and happy thoughts. The day had become hot and clear. The sun, beating down, scorched everything in it's path.

Shade came in many, welcome forms, not only trees, but also bridges. Dark and sumptuously cool and damp. That'll be the urine causing the dampness. Best not to hang around in case I have to draw breath.

The CANAL is undergoing restoration right now and this brings with it the water side housing GOLD RUSH.

Wild life on the water carries on as if nothing was changing bank side.

The plants will keep growing tall and clogging up the waterway until the clearance teams arrive to sanitize the area.

In the meantime nothing much moves. Nothing breathes. This must be the centre of the new world of SLOW EVERYTHING: Slow food, slow travel, slow life.

No matter how remote the Canal feels, I'm always in site of civilization, domestic

industrial,

and recreational.

There is a lovely run of waterfalls, of course there should be lock gates on these drops,

but, not any more.

They are a thing of beauty, as is this Convolvulus.

BIND WEED to you and me.

I used to ride up .. and down this drop every day that I went to work in Stroud ..... for 13 years. Thank goodness i was part time!

The nearer we get to town, the more dereliction we come across. I happen to love it and will sob at it's passing in favour of minimized homes and gardens. Besides, this is ART. I'd wear a HORROCKS FROCK in this PRINT.

I wont miss this sort of ornamentation though.

DUST CART ART

At last, near the centre of town, I spy LOCK GATES. This is the area that's being restored NOW.

WHAT SHALL I DO IN TOWN?

EAT!

Thought I'd read the paper as I wait for my lunch to arrive. Mills had an 'INDY', that'll be just the job.

JUST WHEN I THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE TO STEP INTO CIVILIZATION ….. THIS.....

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Nearly got away with it!

Quite upset my enjoyment of my soup – cold CUCUMBER AND CORRIANDER. Refreshing!

Went around the shops. Picking up odds and ends, as you do. Just as I was thinking about a return walk, the phone went. The garage had stripped the thread from some component and had sent for a 'tappereer' to put it right. Be about two hours more.

More tea, more shops. Did the mall, fashion, beauty, health, charity, THE WORKS.

BORING.

Shopping's fun with a friend – hello Helen, hello Georgy. On your own …... yawn!

I finally got the call and off I sauntered, retracing my steps, though not to Helens', she's going out.

Cars done, new fan belt too. Still looks a dirty mess.

I had hoped it would be CLEAN when I got back.

NO CHANCE : (
