There are a couple of Velux roof lights above our bed in our little holiday home.
When we first arrived I set the window above me to ventilate the room.
One night, I was awoken from a deep sleep by the gentlest of sighs across my face.
I went back to sleep.
It happened again.
SAND!
The onshore wind was blowing the finest slivers of it through the whisper of a gap between the casement and the frame and onto my face.
Gentle angels' breath.
Yesterday the wind blew even stronger.
When we got back from our walk in the bracing sea air, the little house we're staying in gave the occasional shudder as the wind buffeted it.
I wandered into the bedroom to check up on the sand situation and I found this....
.
I closed the window, TIGHT,
shook the sand onto the floor and swept it up.
We are due a proper storm tonight.
That window's staying SHUT!
